Anyone still out there?
Still subscribed to pedometer wars? I was walking from the gym to my bus tonight and I had an idea - as is usually the case. I'm on a bit of a health and fitness kick (again) so I thought getting pedometer wars going again might be a good idea.
However, instead of just doing pedometer wars, I thought we might change things up. How about a challenge each week? I was thinking of posing a group challenge or you can set your own personal challenge to try and achieve and we can use pedometer wars to share how we go, our successes and our challenges.
I'm thinking small challenges that help improve our lives - like aiming to drink 8 glasses of water a day for 5 days, or getting up from your work desk and stretching 3 times a day for 5 days, or exercising for half an hour 4 times in a week. We can still have pedometer challenges, and for those of you without pedometers you can do your own challenge - we don't want you to go all Rainmany on us and try to count every step you take!
I was thinking of adding a couple of small prizes so each week (or month depending on how slack I am) I would pick a winner - not necessarily the one who 'does the most' or achieves the goal/ challenge best, but perhaps the person who tries the hardest or has a personal win. Or maybe the person whose entry get the most comments. The winner might get a postcard or something silly, or can choose the next week's group challenge.
What do you think? Who's in? |

I got a new pedometer from villana last night. I wore it today and intended to walk home from work. Only I didn't.
But I had a REALLY good reason! (I can see you shaking your head and thinking I've got the worst reason yet...)
Well I was going to walk home but decided against it, because once at home i was walking 20 mins to twilight hockey and then playing a short game of hockey (2x 20min halves). And THEN I played another game straight after that! And THEN I was going to walk home.... but may have died on the way so got a lift home.
And yesterday I walked from work to Petersham station to catch the train to Miss Charlie's and we and 2 others went for big walks around peace park. And then we had healthy dinner and watched some Buffy.
And Tuesday night I had planned to walk home, but got the bus and instead walked around IKEA a lot (plus there was significant heavy lifting both before and after the IKEAness)
And I walked home Monday - it's a 40min walk.
Depending on how knackered I am tomorrow, I should walk home again, and Saturday I'm taking a Samba class in the morning. Sunday I'll probably head to the Canada Bay Carnivale.
I choose to completely fail to mention what had for dinner and dessert tonight...
Today the pedometer recorded a whopping 520 steps... I know I took more than that. So I'll just roll it over to tomorrow and see if it records any better tomorrow. |

| | April is in my misterss face - earworm | ] | Hey all, anyone still walking? I managed a personal best for September of 380697 steps and I am proud of it. Walking both ways to and from work has been fun and I plan to keep it up. It is great to get to the point where I miss the walk if I have to drive.
I am hoping I don't get too wet walking home today, but I don't want to ill wish the rain, we need it too much. |

Hey all, anyone else still counting? I find I am geek enough to care how many steps I have taken, even if no one else is caring. My total for August was 326,233 which is at least 10,000 per day - on average. Not that I managed 10,000 a day, but a walk to work and home again day gets me about 18,000 which covers the weekends where I do about 3,000 8->
The weather is getting nicer, the sun is shining on me as I write. I have taken to listening to audio books as I walk to pass the time, as the view on my walk to work has lost its novelty. Terry Pratchett is very good for this.
So lets all get stepping and slim ourselves down for summer! |

I happen to have a box of them, simple ones that only count steps but they do the job!
Email me (at gmail) your mailing address and we're away!
PS - Mayela, I can send pedometers to your comp winners if you like. |

I'm raising the steps people!
So dear reader, I started a rather cunning group pedometer_wars which is meant to be some friendly fun competition to help us all in the excercise stakes since we all really want to losde weight or stay fit.
Sadly, this month the steps are really only being recorded by 2 of us.
So I've decided to throw in my own new incentives.
There are some people out there who would *like* to participate but for whatever reason have not got a pedometer.
FOR TODAY ONLY - For all those pedometerless people - whoever can guess closest to how many steps I take from now until tonight - I will buy you a pedometer and have it delivered to you. I'm feeling pretty generous and may even give 2 prizes out. Comment your guess and you;re in the running!
So the information you need to know about me and my steps: I am already at work and have just cleared the pedometer. Tonight I plan to go into the city to have dinner and drinks with girlfriends. I will catch a bus home. In a normal work day where I get the bus to work and walk home, I pass the 10,000 mark. In a work day when I catch the bus to and from work I only reach 3,000 - 4,000 steps max. Comment your guess and I'll report back in tonight (or tomorrow morning depending on how many drinks I've had and how late I get home!)
The other Incentive? I'm offering pedometers now so that new people will have them in time to participate in June's competition. The rule is usually that the last month's winner puts up the prize for the next month. I'm going to intervene and offer June's prize up front:
The June winner will receive a $50 gift voucher to the store chain of their choice
All you have to do is to join pedometer_wars, use a pedometer and record the most steps in the month of June and you win. I will have the voucher sent to you when you win.
Hows that? Walk n win people - it's simple.
Nothing like some healthy competition :) |

So I had Hockey training last night and I managed to drop the pedometer which I think reset it because it claims I've only done 6000ish steps in the last 3-4 days! Thankfully I did look at my steps before hockey and it was over the 34,000 mark so I plan to just add that to the...6506 which it says right now.
So that makes for 40,506 steps since the other day - I'm not sure how much I have worn it, but it's definitely 3-4 days worth. |

Well I did walk in to Lismore from Lismore Heights which I think is about 6.5km. My hip is quite uncomfortable and I thought the walk would help stretch it out, doesn't seemed to have helped - I get the feeling the whole hockey thing has put it out and I may need to see a Chiro or Osteo about it soon (If only I knew what the difference was between an Osteo and Chiro!).
So I only just managed to crack the 10 mark yesterday with total steps of 10,792. But I think all the red wine last night may have undone all that good work - oops.
Today I'm not so active so I don't imagine anything inspirational will happen steps wise.
Did I mention we won hockey 1-0? Yay. |
